Welcome to our walking tour inside Pembroke Springs Retreat! When a friend offered to put this together, I was hesitant as I’m not crazy about putting it all out there. But Guests continued to tell me that our site doesn’t do our place justice, so we are giving you a little snippet. It’s not all shown, so the living room, baths, and lower sitting room can be a delightful surprise.
Our vibe in the house reflects our family, including Virginia antiques and Japanese furniture. We have added modern pieces for functional purposes, making it quite eclectic. There are items such as tatami mats and shoji screens that are hard to replace. This is part of why we have gone back and forth on the child policy. The artwork is from all over, highlighting our travels. There is a concentration of Japanese patterns and textiles, including bingata created by my grandmother and watercolors by my uncle. There are several hanging noren, serving the purpose of dividing spaces beautifully. Whenever possible, my mother adds fresh flowers to all of the rooms, and there is an entire album dedicated to her ikebana!
The sleeping rooms, commercial kitchen, dining room, living room, and wrap around deck are all on the main level. The sleeping rooms all have their own bathrooms; the Sunrise room has an assisting seat in the tub, the Oak room has a mini jacuzzi, the Maple and Cedar rooms have tub and shower units, and the Pine room has a walk-in shower only helpful for those who don’t want to step over a tub. We are ADA compliant on the main level, with a ramp from the parking area, the hallway restroom, and the Sunrise room. The large stairwell leads to the Japanese baths, changing room, and sitting room.
We hope you can make it or come back! Please call or email if you have any questions about the retreat! Lisa
